Los Angeles school kids will be back in the classroom next Wednesday, including those who live in Boyle Heights.
For parents concerned about the impacts that the Lineage Logistics warehouse fire has on schools in the area, LAUSD Superintendent Andrés E. Chait told KNX News’ Jon Baird the schools are ready to welcome students back.
“We are looking at every possible effort we can to ensure that our families feel comfortable bringing their kids to school next Wednesday,” he said. “In fact, we've had open houses at our schools, tours so that families can actually come and be on site, walk the classrooms, walk the spaces, so that again they can have that level of reassurance.”
Chait said he checked out Stevenson Middle School and said the air quality there was good.
LAUSD board member Rocio Rivas said the district is taking the situation with the Lineage warehouse fire very seriously.
“The district, all of its employees from facilities to OEHS (Office of Environmental Health and Safety), has taken every single measure to make sure that the schools are clean, they're safe, and they're healthy, and also providing families with the resources and supports that they need, including transportation,” she said.
