The new-look Lakers are going to have to learn how to win without LeBron.
The NBA superstar went down with a right foot injury in the second half of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks and finished the game, but is expected to be out for “multiple weeks.”
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, James “now expected to require multiple opinions, sources said, and the Lakers are bracing for his absence to be multiple weeks.”
James injured his foot while driving to the hoop in the third quarter of the game. He collapsed to the floor and grabbed his foot and didn’t appear to make contact with any other players before going to the ground.
The Lakers would eventually mount a 27-point comeback against the Mavs to move to 4-1 since the trade deadline. After the game, LeBron was spotted limping out of the arena.
On Monday afternoon, James shared a clip of his foot to his Instagram with the caption, “Fkn sucks!!!!”
In his 20th NBA season, LeBron remains a monster. He is averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game while recently breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record. And he finally got some help at the trade deadline.
The Lakers (29-32) completely re-tooled their roster and look much deeper. Los Angeles has added players like scoring guard D’Angelo Russell, sharpshooter Malik Beasley, solid forward Jarred Vanderbilt, along with others like Rui Hachimura, Mo Bamba and Davon Reed. They also parted ways with Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley, Kendrick Nunn, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Damian Jones and Thomas Bryant.
In the bunched up Western Conference, they are currently the No. 12 seed but just three games behind the No. 5 seed Los Angeles Clippers (33-30). There are about six weeks left in the regular season before the play-in tournament begins on April 11.
