Lineage has missed the 45-day deadline to clean up the Boyle Heights warehouse.
But in an email to KNX News, officials with the company say that they still have time to meet the mayor's deadline because the "true" 45-day deadline started back on July 7th.
On Friday, Councilmember Ysabel Jurado told KNX News' Craig Fiegener that Lineage should have said something about the deadline while meeting with city departments.
"Our city departments have been meeting with them every single day. They could have said something then and they haven't, and now they want to say something," she said. "It just seems opportunistic and disrespectful to our constituents."
During a meeting Thursday night, Mayor Karen Bass appeared via Zoom and said Lineage has “worn out its welcome in the community,” and that she’s “taken executive action to pause the processing of their plans to rebuild.”
“Missing deadlines, broken commitments, conflicting information, inadequate support for residents at every turn, Lineage has failed to meet its responsibility to the community,” she said.
Some residents, however, were not surprised about Lineage missing the deadline and were disappointed that city and county officials appeared via Zoom to the meeting.
“They can't even properly conduct a town hall,” resident Adriana Bravo told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou. “They can't properly conduct a community forum. So how are you properly going to establish a policy that not only gets rid of Lineage for good, but also every other warehouse that contaminates the area?”
LAFD stopped its 24-hour monitoring of the warehouse fire. Mayor Bass says that she's willing to put a lien on the building to recover all the taxpayer dollars spent on fighting the fire and the clean-up.
