
An arrest was made in the death of 69-year-old Paul Kessler, who died following an altercation during dueling demonstrations over the Israel-Hamas war.
Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji, 50, was arrested Thursday morning, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said Alnaji will be booked at Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for involuntary manslaughter. His bail was set to $1 million.
On Nov. 5, deputies responded to multiple calls of battery at Westlake Boulevard and Thousand Oaks Boulevard, where a Pro-Israeli/Pro-Palestinian demonstration was happening.
Kessler, was involved in an altercation with pro-Palestine demonstrators when the 69-year-old “fell backward and struck his head on the ground,” according to a report by the sheriff’s office.
Kessler was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries on Nov. 6.
