SYDNEY (KNX) — An Australian socialite and PR businesswoman — known for her time on the country's version of The Celebrity Apprentice — defended her decision to spend around $40,000 on her 11-year-old daughter's birthday on Monday, despite the online criticism.

In a television interview with the Today Show Australia, Roxy Jacenko, 42, doubled down on her decision. Jacenko said she planned the extravagant event without her daughter Pixie Curtis' input. She wanted to celebrate her progeny's birthday and the success of the young girl's pandemic-born business. The barely-double-digit entrepreneur is worth $13 million, the Daily Mail reported.

"Everyone's going to have an opinion," Jacenko lamented. "The reality is: we're here for a short time, and I want to make sure my children have the best opportunities they can if we can afford to do it," noting that she also is "charitable" and does "so much" for the Children's Hospital "and so on."

The nightclub-themed party included a DJ, disco balls, balloons, custom neon lights, fireworks, and a flame-throwing mixologist. A hired stylist also dressed the event's attendees beforehand.

“This is a gross display of wealth,” said one social media user. “Some people have too much money … and [are] out of touch with the real world. [Spoiled] to the max,” quipped another person.

"I had cancer," Jacenko responded to the criticism. "We have lived a life that has been under scrutiny a lot, so I want to make the most of my life because you don't know what happens tomorrow."
