South Gate officer killed in 605 Freeway collision

LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A South Gate Police Officer was killed in a car crash Sunday night in Norwalk, according to the department.

The collision occurred in the area of 605 Freeway and Firestone Boulevard around 11:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol said.

South Gate Police Department said Detective Alexis Gonzalez was off-duty at the time of the collision and had lost control of the car.

He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Gonzalez was a five-year veteran in the department.

"Detective González is survived by his parents and two brothers," the department said.

"We ask that you keep the González family and our department in your prayers. We thank all of our law enforcement partners for their support during this difficult time."
