BEVERLY HILLS (KNX) — The 29-year-old man arrested in the shooting death of Jacqueline Avant has been charged with murder, according to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office.
Aariel Maynor has been charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count felon with a firearm. He’s also charged with two counts of residential burglary with person present.
Maynor was also charged for shooting at Avant's security guard; however, the security guard was not injured.
81-year-old Avant, who was the wife of music legend Clarence Avant, was shot and killed in her Beverly Hills home early Wednesday morning.
Maynor was arrested an hour after the shooting, but he was taken to the hospital as he shot himself in the foot while breaking into a house in the Hollywood Hills.
“Mrs. Avant was a treasured member of our community. Her generosity and good will touched so many lives,” District Attorney Gascón said in a press release. “My office is working closely with the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments in the investigation and prosecution of this case. We must continue to work together to hold accountable the people who commit violent crimes against our community.
