WILMINGTON (CNS) - Police Tuesday are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that fatally struck a 36-year-old man who was igniting fireworks in the street in Wilmington.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called shortly after 9:10 p.m. Monday to the 700 block of North Fries Avenue, near West G Street, according to LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The blow from the SUV knocked the victim in the air and he landed partially beneath another vehicle exiting a shopping center but was not trapped, Humphrey said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene

Police said the suspect fled without rendering aid and is still at large.
