Journalist and television personality Geraldo Rivera has never been shy about sharing his opinions on just about anything, especially politics.

Once a close Trump ally, he now supports Vice President Kamala Harris. And he had plenty to share with KNX News' chief correspondent Charles Feldman on the latest episode of Countdown 2024.

Listen here:

"I was honored to be friends with a man who became president of the United States," Rivera said, but everything changed on January 6th 2021.

"When he incited and unleashed an unprecedented invasion of our Capitol... He was so reluctant to yield power that he was willing to stab the constitution of the United States in the back, so we have been estranged since then," said Rivera.

Rivera said he misses the friendship he formed with the former president over several decades and believes Trump has been underrated as a leader, but "Any good he did evaporated when he refused to give up after he lost. He's...perhaps the most dangerous sore loser in our history."

After recent events at a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden in New York, where podcaster-comedian Tony Hinchliffe described Puerto Rico as "a floating island of garbage," Rivera, a Latino man, has another reason to turn away from Trump.

The Trump campaign has sent out a statement saying they do not agree with the comments and did not vet Hinchliffe prior to the performance, but Rivera said, "That's absolute baloney. That's bull."

"When you call Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage...It's almost as if [Trump] has conjured up an absolute positive way to lose the support of the Latino people," said Rivera.

In a post on 'X' "Fuck these racists. Latino men of good will, have pride in yourselves and your ancestors. A vote for Trump is a vote against self-respect."

Rivera does believe that the Harris campaign's efforts to attack Trump have been effective, but said ultimately, "Trump lost the election in Madison Square Garden."

"I think that history will point to this as the 'October surprise' that he thought in his arrogance that he could continue insulting, continue dividing and, then eke out a narrow victory," said Rivera. Now backing Harris, he calls on her to "speak to our better angels."
