A water main break caused a sinkhole on the side of the road and several evacuations in Hacienda Heights, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday.
The water main, owned by San Gabriel Valley Water Company, was reported broken around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Edgeridge and Tamarix Drives.
Fire department officials told KNX News' Nataly Tavidian at least one house was evacuated due to damage from the sinkhole, but no injuries were reported.
At 2:00 PM on Tuesday, the water company released a statement saying they had completed repairs on the main break and, along with public works, are in the process of cleaning up.
Josh Swift, Vice President of Operations said, “The affected water main was constructed in 1978, but has a life expectancy of 75 years or more and had no history of leaks. The water main break resulted in flooding and mud and debris flows to the area of Avocado Terrace. Fortunately, no one was injured and the area has been deemed safe to access.”
San Gabriel President Robert Nicholson said, “I am grateful to our team for their swift response, working throughout the night, and am pleased
to report that service has been restored to the seven impacted customers."
According to the statement, San Gabriel has an ongoing pipe replacement program to "ensure the integrity of the water infrastructure" in the area.
