VICTORVILLE, Calif. (KNX) – A woman was arrested for the 2015 murder of her husband, deputies said.

Leticia Smith was arrested in Mexico on an extraditable warrant.

In May 2015, friends and co-workers of Antoine and Leticia Smith called San Bernardino County deputies after they said they received texts from Antoine’s number that did not match his “messaging style”, according to a press release.

After a missing person report was filed, deputies conducted a welfare check in the residence where Antoine was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

An investigation led his wife, Leticia, to be named a suspect in his murder; however, evidence revealed she and the couple’s two children fled to Mexico.

The Sheriff’s Cold Case Homicide Team took over the investigation in December 2021 and working with Mexican law enforcement officials. They located Leticia in Rosarita Mexico.

Officials said at the time of her arrest that her children were found to be safe.

The United States Marshals Service received custody of Smith on March 4 and was taken into custody by San Bernardino County deputies.

Leticia was booked at the West Valley Detention Center on $2,000,000 bail.
