There's a rumor that Oprah Winfrey was reportedly denied entry into a Maui shelter where wildfire survivors were seeking refuge, but officials on the island are setting the story straight, saying, "To clarify, Oprah was able to visit our shelter and we thank her for instructing media journalists and camera crews to remain outside." Maybe she couldn't bring in the crew, but someone inside got video of Oprah handing out necessities to the evacuees. She also says she'll be donating a big amount once the fires are out and rebuilding can begin.
And then there's Paris Hilton who is being called out for vacationing just miles from the deadly wildfires in Maui. Paris, her hubby, and their baby have been staying at a resort very close to a town that has been devastated by the fires. More than 95 people have died, and 1,000 people are still missing. People are calling her out for being so insensitive and shallow, for not only still taking the vacation, but for posting selfies there. However, a source close to Paris told the Daily Mail "she has been absolutely helping. Maui has always held a special place in her heart. She has been gathering supplies and taking them to shelters and those who need. She already did and continues to do so."
Michael Oher, former NFL player and inspiration for "The Blind Side," claims the movie isn't really true. He has come forward to say that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy never formally adopted him and instead put him in a conservatorship, explaining to him it was the same as being adopted. He claims they exploited him and tricked him into signing over control over his contracts, along with his name. He also says he never say any money from the movie. In response, Sean said he never manipulated Michael into a conservatorship for personal gain but did so based on NCAA requirements for him to attend Ole Miss. He explained, "I sat Michael down and told him, 'If you're planning to go to Ole Miss -- or even considering Ole Miss -- we think you have to be part of the family." As for any movie money, Sean said the family only made "about $14,000, each," including Michael. Other reports have that number as high as $25,000 each and around 2.5% of the films net profits. Sean also pointed out that he didn't need cash from Michael, as he had sold his fast food franchises for $200 million.
