"A Quiet Place II" opened this past weekend bringing in $48 million between Friday and Sunday, marking the biggest three-day take for a movie released during the pandemic, and Memorial Day added another $8 million or so to that total. That's extra impressive because it's just a couple million short of what the original movie made, which came out in 2018 before the pandemic. Disney's live-action "Cruella" starring Emma Stone was the only other new debut this weekend, earning the second spot at the box office with just over $21 million.
The movie "Cruella" was questioned from the start, as in do we really need a story to get us rooting for the bad guy? Let's remember, Cruella de Vil wore Dalmatian fur. So, how did Disney give us a morsel of sympathy for the character? By giving her a backstory of the dogs being forced to attack her mother, pushing her over a ledge. Viewers are not happy about Dalmatians made out to look like an aggressive breed. See the video of the scene at tmz.com. Of course, it is Disney, so you had to know more than likely, it was going to involve the mother's demise in some way.
