The Coats for Kids campaign is under way! We’re collecting winter coats for children in need every day until October 15th.
As the temperatures get lower, the need for community support gets higher. So, Western Mass News is partnering with Greenfield Cooperative Bank and 94.7 WMAS to help the Salvation Army collect coats for kids.
Springfield Salvation Army Captain Stacey McNeil explained that it’s a massive help for families without, providing assistance in more ways than one, as winter approaches, “It’s providing a basic need for children and it’s taking away a cost for families because now, coats are so expensive for families, and so it frees up funding for other things like food, electricity, rent.”

In her first year as a part of the campaign, it pushes her toward supporting this season’s goals, “Our goal this year is to collect 1,000 coats. There’s just so many children in need so our goal is 1,000 coats but we also collect, hats, scarves, so those kind of essential items that go along with the season that’s coming.”
