Scheduled to coincide with the UN General Assembly and G20 climate meetings concerts were staged across 6 continents —in New York, Paris, Lagos, Rio, Sydney, Mumbai and more all of which were broadcast globally.
This year’s star-studded line-up included Ed Sheeran alongside Elton John, with Doja Cat, Black Eyed Peas, and Stormzy in Paris. Duran Duran and Kylie Minogue, among others in London.
Headlining the stateside NY event — Coldplay and Billie Eilish who were joined by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, and Lorde among others in New York's Central Park.
The outdoor New York City concert was filled with amazing performances and special surprises. One of which included Coldplay inviting Billie and her brother FINNEAS on stage during their performance of “Fix You.”
Following the tracks first chorus band frontman Chris Martin alerted the crowd saying, “Please welcome, Billie and Finneas.” The talented duo then duetted on the second verse before Martin joined in for the remainder of the song.
But Eilish and Finneas weren’t the only artists to pop up during Coldplay’s guest-filled set: Chinese pianist Lang Lang accompanied the band on “Clocks,” Jacob Collier and We Are King joined in on “Human Heart,” Esther Chungu stopped by as the band covered her “Jehovah,” and Camila and Shawn reunited on stage once more after their collab performance of “Señorita” to accompany the British rock band on “Yellow.”
Though they didn’t share the stage, BTS also showed up, via video, joining the group to perform their recent collaboration “My Universe.”
Elsewhere, at the Los Angeles leg of 2021’s Global Citizen Live, Stevie Wonder headlined, as the rest of the line-up included Adam Lambert, Chloe x Halle, Demi Lovato, H.E.R., ONEREPUBLIC, Ozuna, The Lumineers and 5 Seconds of Summer.
