It seems Shawn Mendes isn’t ready for us to hear his next album, Shawn, quite yet, announcing that he’s decided to “push back it’s release date to next month.

On October 9, just nine days before his forthcoming fifth album’s original October 18 release date, Shawn took to his IG stories and X to share the postponement news and explain his reasons why.

“Hey guys ♥️ My team and i have decided to push the album release date to November 15th. We just need a little bit more time to bring some new inspiration and ideas to life ♥️,” he wrote. “I love you guys thank you for being so patient, I can’t wait to see you guys at the next few shows x.”

After taking time away from the limelight to focus on his mental health, Mendes first popped back up on the scene, teasing the release of Shawn this summer. Debuting the album’s first song “Isn’t That Enough,” followed up with “Why Why Why,” and “Nobody Knows.”

Despite the album’s push back, Shawn still intends to follow through with the several previously scheduled intimate theater shows he had planned around the original release of Shawn. For those lucky bunch of close-knit crowds, Mendes has been sampling his new album, minus his latest inspirations of course,

Continuing to do so at his next stops at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Paramount, and Los Angeles’ the Ford, as well as  Seattle’s Paramount Theatre, Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and more.

As for what “new inspiration and ideas,” might have led Shawn to press pause on his album’s release, it’s possible he decided to take a Short N’ Sweet reprieve to lyrically address those love triangle headlines and “all the projection” he recently commented about on Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose, as well as on X, just a few days later.

Another reason could be because Shawn decided to hop on the ever so popular live tour to concert special trend. With plans to premiere For Friends and Family Only, A Live Concert, globally in select theaters on November 14.

So whether the delay is because Shawn decided it would be more beneficial to put his recent frustrations in a song, or because of the live concert film, or because of a complete other reason we haven’t thought of… It seems, only time will tell. And so the countdown to November 15 begins.
