Adam Jones is being linked to the Phillies, once again. Last summer, Jones blocked a trade from Baltimore to Philadelphia by using his 10-and-5 rights.
Now, an Arizona Diamondback, Jones doesn't have that same ability and likely would be willing to join the Phillies.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report speculated about Jones coming to Philly.
"Contrary to what happened in 2018, Jones couldn't block a trade to the Phillies this time," Rymer wrote. "They would have to live with poor defense from him in center field, but the trade-offs would be quality offense and outstanding veteran leadership."
Jones, 33, has a slash line of .275/.321/.494 this season with 12 homers and 37 RBIs. The five-time all-star and four-time gold glove winner would give the Phillies a much need option in center field with Andrew McCutchen out for the season with a torn ACL and Odubel Herrera done for the foreseeable future following a domestic violence situation. With Jones, the Phillies could move Scott Kingery to the infield, something Gabe Kapler seems interested in.
The Diamondbacks are 10.0 games back of the Dodgers in the NL West, but at 35-33, they're still in the hunt for a wildcard spot.
