Simmons expected to sign 5 year, $170M extension

The Philadelphia 76ers have offered a five-year, $170 million maximum contract extension to Ben Simmons, who is expected to "work through the details toward an eventual agreement," according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Simmons turns 23 in July. In two NBA seasons, Simmons has already won a rookie of the year award and reached an all-star team. In his first NBA seasons, Simmons became just the eighth player in NBA history to average at least 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists in a single season. Last season, Simmons averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists.

The knock on Simmons has been his jump shot, or lack thereof. Simmons is reluctant to shoot from the outside and is just a 58.3-percent foul shooter through his first two NBA seasons.

Simmons became eligble to sign the rookie scale max extension beginning on July 1st. He was the No. 1 overall pick of the Sixers in 2016 after playing one season at LSU.

Once Simmons officially accepts the deal, the Sixers will have him and Tobias Harris signed through the next five seasons. Joel Embiid, who signed a five year rookie scale max extension worth $147,710,050 before the 2017 season, has four years remaining on his contract.
