Someone bet $100,000 on Sixers to make playoffs

The Philadelphia 76ers are almost certainly going to make the playoffs in 2019-20. But would I put $100,000 on it? Probably not.

Someone did.

An anonymous bettor, according to ESPN.com, put $100,500 on the Sixers to make the playoffs at -5,000 odds on Wednesday at the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The bet would net him $2,010 if Philly reaches the postseason.

The same bettor placed a $67,000 bet on the Golden State Warriors to reach the playoffs last season at minus-10,000 odds. He won $670.

These bets just seem absolutely insane. Losing $100,000 is an exponentially worse feeling than the feeling of winning $2,010. I mean, if you can afford to bet $100,000 on something, do you really need the extra two grand? Plus, you've got to wait until April to collect your measly $2,000 anyway. It just doesn't make any sense to me, unless it's some sort of marketing/attention ploy for the sports book.

Anyway, the Sixers have won 50 games two seasons in a row and are the second favorites in the East after adding Al Horford, and replacing Jimmy Butler with Josh Richardson, among some other fringe moves.
