The first game of the Phillies season is scheduled to take place at Citizens Bank Park on July 24 against the Miami Marlins, according to sources.
This marks the fifth time the Phillies and Marlins will open the season against one another, the last one dating back to 2018.
The Phillies full schedule will be released at 6pm on Monday night on MLB Network. The new 60-game season will pit the Phillies against AL East teams as well as their NL East counterparts.
Opening day still holds many questions for the Phillies including who will take the mound. Aaron Nola was scheduled as the opening day starter back in March but is absent at training camp due to coronavirus protocols. Zach Wheeler, the Phillies second ace, is committed to playing this season but is awaiting the birth of his baby and is open to the possibility of opting out of the season.
This is all under the pretext of several teams postponing or cancelling workouts on Monday due to COVID-19 testing delays. Teams like the A's, Nationals and Angels are all waiting on test results to resume workouts. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo released a powerful statement in regards to the testing thus far. However, several players, including Wheeler, have said they feel safe during team workouts.
