A bad Phillies season potentially got a lot worse on Friday night when Phillies right fielder Bryce Harper had to leave the team's game against the New York Mets with a right hand injury.
The injury happened in the top of the third inning when a pitch from Mets pitcher Steven Matz hit Harper right on the front of the top of his right hand. Harper tried to get out of the way but he couldn't completely dodge the pitch.
Harper went down immediately, clutching his hand on the ground in obvious pain. He briefly spoke with trainers before walking to first base. Harper did not leave the game initially but did leave in the middle of the third inning.
The team announced two innings later that Harper had a right-hand contusion. While there is likely another update to come, the initial news not being that he suffered a broken hand is certainly positive.
Harper is hitting .255 this season with 30 home runs, 100 RBI and a .869 OPS.
