New Eagles cornerback Darius Slay will have a new number -- and it will be honoring a Philadelphia legend.

Speaking on Instagram late Saturday night, Slay revealed his new number with the Eagles will be 24 in honor of Kobe Bryant.

Eagles CB Darius Slay says he will wear 24 with Eagles to honor Kobe Bryant. He is thrilled to join Eagles knowing it was Kobe's favorite team"I'm going Kobe mode. Black mamba. Rest in peace to the -- One of my favorite players. I will look good in 24"-- @_bigplayslay23 pic.twitter.com/d6Pmi14WUI

Slay talked on 94WIP this past week with Jon Marks and Ike Reese about how excited he was to now play for Bryant's favorite team.

"I know he would have been cheering for me," Slay said. "I'm ready to put a show on."

The last Eagles player to wear number 24 was running back Jordan Howard, who wore it during the 2019 season.

The Eagles are hoping Slay can be the answer they have been looking for at cornerback. Slay, 29-years old, has made multiple Pro Bowls and has totaled 347 tackles, 19 interceptions and 104 pass deflections in 103 games played.
