Eagles: Wentz, not Foles, is our quarterback

The debate on what the Eagles should do at quarterback will continue.

The debate on what they will do, however, is over .

Speaking in a joint press conference on Tuesday, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and top personnel executive Howie Roseman both told reporters they will be moving forward with Carson Wentz — not Nick Foles — as their quarterback.

"Carson is the quarterback going forward. In Nick's case, we would love to have everyone back throughout the roster," Pederson said. "But as I have said many, many times — it is not about one guy. It is about the team. We are going to do what is best for the roster."

The declaration likely ends Foles' time with the Eagles, although Roseman would not rule out bringing the quarterback back as a backup.

"We would love to have Foles on the roster," Roseman said.

Whether Foles is back, traded or leaves as a free agent, however, the Eagles' message about moving forward with Wentz was a clear one despite the fact he ended a second straight season on the bench with a serious injury. In 2017, Wentz was on the injured reserve list with a torn ACL. This year, although he was never on injured reserve, Wentz ended up suffering what turned into a season-ending back fracture.

Despite the evidence to the contrary, Roseman is still confident Wentz can stay healthy and that injuries won't be an issue going forward.

"We have a lot of confidence in Carson," Roseman said, "and his ability to be a 19-game starter"
