The Eagles have brought back Super Bowl LII hero Corey Clement on a one-year deal.
The running back was allowed to test the free agency market over the last month, but was not signed. The decision to bring back Clement likely has to do with the Eagles not drafting a running back in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Clement, 25-years old, has been with the Eagles the last three seasons, appearing in 31 games and totaling 895 yards and eight touchdowns on 174 touches. He finished with 108 total yards and one touchdown in the Eagles' win over the New England Patriots as a rookie.
Clement seemed to be on his way to having a very successful career with the Eagles, but injuries the last two seasons have kept him on the sideline. He was placed on injured reserve in 2018 with a knee injury, and then in 2019 with a shoulder injury.
It is likely the one-year deal does not guarantee Clement a roster spot, but it will give him a chance to compete for a spot in training camp. The Eagles only have two locks at the position (Miles Sanders, Boston Scott) and could end up keeping as many as five running backs. If Clement shows he is healthy he will likely end up with a spot on the team, as running backs coach Duce Staley is a big fan of Clement's game, and he can contribute both on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield.
If Clement comes to camp and doesn't play well, or doesn't look healthy, the Eagles can likely move on with very little impact on the cap.
