As free agent guard Jimmy Butler reportedly prepares to meet with the Miami Heat on Sunday once free agency begins, the Sixers other premier free agent will also be reportedly receiving some attention from another team as well.
According to a report from the Dallas News, the Dallas Mavericks are expected to "submit" an offer to Harris on Sunday, but it will be for less than the four-year max. The Mavericks, however, reportedly "fully expect the Sixers to 'back up the truck' and keep Harris with a maximum contract."
Only Philly can offer Harris a five-year deal, which is expected to be worth around $190 million. Other teams can only offer Harris a four-year deal worth about $140 million.
Harris, 26, was acquired by the Sixers in a February trade, along with Boban Marjanović and Mike Scott in exchange for Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, Landry Shamet and future draft picks. Harris has already played for five different NBA teams in eight seasons. The 6'9" forward has become one of the NBA's elite shooters, shooting over 39-percent from three-point range in each of the last two seasons.
Harris recently spoke about his time in Philly at Steve Nash's Showdown in New York City.
"Obviously we were a couple bounces away from going to overtime versus the champs now," Harris said. "We didn't have enough time to really get the full chemistry as we probably would have wanted to. But at the same time, it's one of the most talented groups of players I've been a part of and we'll see what happens. Joel (Embiid) is the best big man in the NBA, so the talent level of the group was phenomenal. We put ourselves in a position to win basketball games. The organization did a great job of really showing me what was presented there in my time."
