The Sixers have bee extremely active so far leading up to the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, and there is reason to believe there could be more moves coming.
Especially if this ends up happening:
The Phoenix Suns will likely waive veteran guard Wayne Ellington, which would allow him to enter free agency, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @WatchStadium.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 6, 2019If the Suns do indeed end up releasing Wayne Ellington, you have to imagine the Sixers would be near the front of the line to bring him in.
Ellington is shooting 36% from the three-point line this season, but is a career 38% shooter from deep in 617 games of NBA experience. The 10-year veteran is averaging eight points in 21 minutes per game during his career. With the Sixers, Ellington would not only give them another shooter, but he would also be a valuable piece off of the bench, something the Sixers desperately need. You have to imagine Ellington would be interested in coming to Philadelphia, considering he is from the area and the Sixers are expected to make a deep playoff run.
The Sixers made a major trade on Wednesday when they acquired forward Tobias Harris, center Boban Marjanovic and forward Mike Scott from the Los Angeles Clippers. The price to land Harris from the Clippers was not cheap, as the Sixers hand to send back stellar rookie Landry Shamet, their own 2020 protected first-round pick, the Miami Heat's unprotected 2021 first-round pick and two second-round picks (2021 and 2023 second-round picks).
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. EST.
