The Eagles are competing with the Las Vegas Raiders for cornerback Byron Jones, according to a report from Tony Pauline of the Pro Football Network.
"...The Raiders are pushing hard for cornerback Byron Jones. Right now, it looks to be between the Raiders and the Eagles. The price tag is expected to be somewhere around $18 million/annually."
The Eagles being in the final group of teams for Jones is not surprising considering their need at cornerback and $40 million in their pocket to spend.
Jones, 27, spent his first five NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after being the franchise's 27th overall pick in 2015 out of Connecticut. The 2018 Pro Bowl corner and second-team All-Pro member has two intercpetions and three forced fumbles in his career, switching back and forth between safety and corner throughout his time in the NFL.
One of the likely reasons the Eagles have so much interested in Jones is his position versatility. With the potential for Malcolm Jenkins to either be traded or released, Jones could potentially come in and play a similair role if needed, lining up all over the defense like Jenkins has since 2015.
