Fair or not, this isn't a great look.
During the Sixers' playoff opening loss against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, centers Joel Embiid and Amir Johnson were seen looking at a text message on Johnson's phone while on the bench:
Someone is getting fined tonight... wow, unbelievable pic.twitter.com/Wgf6da1Djo
— BBALLBREAKDOWN (@bballbreakdown) April 13, 2019The video was played on ESPN during the telecast, and considering it came with the Sixers being blown out in the fourth quarter, the timing was far from perfect.
After the game, Embiid said they were checking the phone because Johnson's daughter is sick:
Joel Embiid said Amir Johnson's daughter is sick & he was looking at an update on his cellphone when cameras caught them.
— Michael Lee (@MrMichaelLee) April 13, 2019That is certainly a fair reason for Johnson to check the phone, but considering the timing and outcome of the game, it would not be surprising if the incident still upset the many fans who were already mad from the team's poor play.
