Will LeSean McCoy return to the Eagles?

Last March, at the start of free agency, the Eagles brought back DeSean Jackson.

Will this March bring the return of LeSean McCoy?

McCoy, the franchise's all-time leading rusher, is expected to hit the free agency market on March 16th and won't be returning to Kansas City. Speaking on the NFL Network, NFL Insider Mike Garafolo said a return to the Eagles is possible.

"I would not discount the possibility of him returning to the Eagles," Garafolo said. "I also would not discount the possibility that he meets up with Anthony Lynn out with the Chargers, who are going to have some changes in the backfield. So, some interesting possibilities for LeSean McCoy as he heads into free agency."

McCoy's 2019 season in Kansas City wasn't great, and he was eventually a healthy-scratch by the time the Chiefs made their run to the Super Bowl. McCoy did average 4.6 yards-per-carry on 101 attempts, however, his best average since 2011.

The Eagles passed on bringing back McCoy at the beginning of the 2019 season when the Buffalo Bills released him, but things have changed since then.

To start, the Eagles decision to pass on McCoy last year was when they still had a healthy Jordan Howard on the roster. Howard is set to become a free agent, and after missing half of the season with a shoulder injury, it is no guarantee he is back. The Eagles also had Darren Sproles, who didn't play much in 2019 and has since retired to join the Eagles' front office. While Miles Sanders will be the lead back in 2020, with Boston Scott getting plenty of touches as well, there is an open spot on the roster for a veteran backup.

If McCoy can convince the Eagles he will come in and be happy as Sanders' backup, and be a good presence in the locker room, a reunion is possible. Owner Jeffrey Lurie is a big fan of McCoy, and hasn't allowed any player to wear No. 25 since McCoy left in 2015.

Add everything up, and the chances of McCoy being back with the Eagles next season are higher than you might think.
