Will Parks: 3 things to know about Eagles new safety

Will Parks
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Eagles have signed safety Will Parks to a one-year deal, according to an ESPN report.

A Philadelphia native that grew up in Germantown, Parks has been a career backup during his time in Denver, with only 15 starts in 62 games. He has totaled 149 tackles with one sack and four interceptions in four seasons. Parks was a sixth-round pick out of Arizona in 2016.

It will be interesting to see how Parks fits in with the Eagles. Their starting safeties for next season project as Rodney McLeod and Jalen Mills. Parks could be coming in as the third safety or for insurance if Mills struggles in his transition from cornerback to safety.

Here are three things to know about the newest Eagles' safety:

1) Parks got some experience in man coverage last season, which was a first for him, lining up in the slot 211 times. He struggled somewhat in his new role playing more man coverage, allowing five touchdowns and a passer rating of 134.9 when targeted. Although Parks is a hard hitter he is not especially quick, running a 4.63 40 prior to the 2016 NFL Draft.

2) Parks is a physical player and has the ability to play near the line of scrimmage if needed. He could fill in the same kind of linebacker-type roles Malcolm Jenkins played on in the Eagles' defense.

3) Parks was used as a blitzer pretty often in Denver, as according to Pro Football Reference he blitzed 37 times over the last two years alone. He was not especially successful in those blitzes, however, totaling just one quarterback hurry and three quarterback knockdowns.
