Throughout the whole process of Bryce Harper's contract negotiations, Phillies fans became slightly frustated with the reporting of MLB insider Jon Heyman.
They loved him on Thursday when he broke the news that the Phillies got their guy.
Speaking on 94WIP with Jon Marks and Ike Reese, Heyman said he was surprised with the details of the contract -- a whopping $330 million over 13 years with a no-trade clause and no opt-out.
"The opt-out clause only benefits the player," Heyman said. "He gave quite a commitment to Philadelphia. Any thoughts Harper isn't committed to Philadelphia is out the window."
PHILLIES: FOUR THOUGHTS ON BRYCE HAPER
Harper, 26, may not be the best player in MLB, but he is baseball's biggest star. The former 2010 No. 1 overall pick won the National League MVP in 2015, putting together one of the finest seasons in recent memory, as he slashed .330/.460/.649 with 42 home runs, 99 RBIs, 124 walks and a 9.3 fWAR.
Coming off of a down year, however, might have played an impact in Harper taking so long to get the deal he wanted.
"Last year was not his best year. That certainly played into the market," Heyman said. "That is part of why it took so long to figure out where he was going to end up and find a deal that satisfies him."
