1) Kenneth Murray, MLB, Oklahoma: 6-2, 241. Built like ‘backers of old, but flies around like modern speed guys. I like him more than Patrick Queen, based on physicality, but both players are PHENOMENAL. Complete package in every way— limitless character is the cherry on top. Murray’s always around the ball, racking up 254 tackles the last two seasons. Oklahoma also blitzed him and lined him up on the edge at times, which yielded nine sacks and 45 quarterback pressures over the last three seasons— serious production when he was only sent after the quarterback on about 11% of his snaps.
2) Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor: (Trade a 2021 pick to move up in 2nd) Yes, he’s gigantic and he ran a 4.38 electronic— but there’s enough not to like on his tape from an effort and separation perspective that he might fall to where the Eagles can pilfer him in the 2nd. Freakish player, but a risk. Huge upside if Aaron Moorehead is a better WR coach than what we’ve had around here recently.
3) Darrell Taylor, DE, Tennessee: 2 seasons of college production. Taylor totaled 16.5 sacks and 21 tackles for a loss in his 24 college games after finishing with just three sacks in his first three seasons. Well-honed pass rushers repertoire. Would the Eagles take a chance on another DE from Tennessee? Maybe it would light a fire under Derek Barnett’s butt and he’d start to produce like a 1st-rounder.
4) Van Jefferson, WR, Florida: A Jones fracture in his right foot prevented him from working out for teams and this will cause him to drop a bit. Watch his film and he knows how to get open— It helps that his father played receiver in the league and he’s now the WR coach for the Jets. We haven’t seen routes this good in Philadelphia in forever.
4)Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina: The Eagles broken foot draft discount WR club welcomes another member! He broke his foot training for the combine, which means Edwards might stick around long enough for the Eagles to grab him. Very strong receiver who scoffs at tiny DBs trying to press him. Quick and fluid, confident with his releases. Productive player, and he’s big— 6-3, 212.
4) A.J. Dillon, RB, Boston College: Dillon, 5-foot-11, 250 pounds, becomes our pounder. He doesn’t have elite speed but he is decisive with his cuts and rarely goes down in the backfield, as evident by his 5.3 yard-per-carry average last season on 318 attempts. Can’t really catch, but we don’t need him for that. We need a physical triceratops between the tackles and Dillon fits the bill.
5) Javelin Guidry, CB, Utah: 4.29 electronic 40 time in Indianapolis, which was 2nd-fastest to only Henry Ruggs (who I wish I could have written into this mock draft, but he’ll surely be snatched up by 49ers). Guidry will stick his nose in there. Not just a speed guy, pretty sturdy, too. Yes, another nickel corner. Someone’s gonna need to learn to be good enough on the outside at some point. You can’t teach speed, but hopefully new DB coach Marquand Manuel can teach everything else to a strange group of CBs.
6) John Molchon, OT, Boise State: Molchon has seen time at both left and right tackle, while also playing left guard at times as well during his four years at Boise State. Yes! Big V-type versatile! He projects as a right tackle, but his swing-ability should push the 6-foot-5, 314 pound linemen up the Eagles’ draft board.
