The Phillies have made a move for a pitcher -- just not one anyone was expecting.

According to an ESPN report the Phillies have acquired pitcher Jason Vargas from the New York Mets.

Vargas, 36, is 6-5 with a 4.01 ERA this season in 18 starts and 94.1 innings pitched. He has a WHIP of 1.272.

The Phillies sent the Mets minor league catcher Austin Bossart in the deal.

Vargas is owed $2.67 million of his $8 million salary for the rest of this season, and his contract includes an $8 million club option for 2020 with a $2 million buyout.
