The Sixers own five picks in the 2019 NBA Draft: picks Nos. 24, 33, 34, 42, and 54.
The Sixers haven't waited this long—24th overall—to make a first-round selection since 2005. The good news is it means the Sixers have finally arrived. The bad news is, it's nearly impossible to hone in on who they will take with so many options and 23 players to be selected before they go on the clock.
To me, the Sixers need an experienced, winning player who can come in and impact the roster right away, something Brand has already admitted.
Johnson, who understandably isn't a dynamic athletic, projects to be a solid NBA three-and-D player. He reminds me a lot of Robert Covington coming out of Tennessee State. In their respective scouting reports, both Johnson and Covington were talked about as skilled offensive players, excellent shooters, capable defenders, below-average athletes who need to put on weight, and bad finishers at the rim.
After four years at Tennesee State, Cov went undrafted before landing on the Sixers in 2014 where he made a name for himself. Now, he's an All-NBA defensive player and a reliable three-and-D starter for the Timberwolves.
