Pederson on trade deadline: Have to be 'smart'

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 4pm and the Philadelphia Eagles, per usual, are expected to be one of the top buyers in the market.

After their big 31-13 win in Buffalo on Sunday, the Eagles improved to 4-4 and are back in position to potentially win the NFC East and make a playoff push. That means, with improvement needs in key areas like wide receiver and cornerback, all eyes are on Howie Roseman.

"Howie and I talk quite a bit here in the last few days, weeks leading up to this," Doug Pederson told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday.

"Look, it's gotta be right for the Philadelphia Eagles, it's gotta be right for our team. I don't think you just go and pull the right just to pull the trigger. I think you gotta be smart, it's gotta be someone who can come in and help, if we even decide to make a move. We are getting some guys back healthy now here hopefully this week and the next couple of weeks, and we got a bye coming up. We're getting there. We'll take a look and see if somebody can help us win games. Again, it's gotta be the right person."

Philadelphia has around $22 million in cap space, near the top of the league. They are projected to have 10 draft picks in 2020, giving Roseman plenty of ammunition to make a deal with.

Last season, Roseman and the Eagles went out and acquired WR Golden Tate, who ended up catching a key touchdown in a playoff game. This year, there are, once again, some big name wide receivers reportedly on the market like A.J. Green, Keenan Allen, and even DeVante Parker to a lesser degree.

Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson is a name that has been linked to the Eagles by multiple reporters, as well.
