— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) March 12, 2020The NBA suspended play on Wednesday night following the information that Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. On Thursday, it was announced Gobert's teammate Donovan Mitchell also tested positive for the virus.

MLB Spring Training and Major League Soccer also suspended play, while major NCAA conference tournaments were canceled.
The suspension of the NHL season comes at a time where the Flyers were making noise, winners of nine out of 10 games and just one point behind the Capitals for the division lead. Some projection models even had the Flyers as the favorite to win the Stanley Cup.
The NFL reportedly has "no plans" to move the start of the league year, which is set to begin on March 18th.
