The Phillies need starting pitching help, it's no secret. Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta are struggling and the Phillies can no longer rely on Cole Irvin or Jerad Eickhoff to start every fifth day.

With the trade deadline coming up on July 31st, Angelo Cataldi asked Gabe Kapler if he believes his club needs pitching help.

"I've always said the manager of a baseball team's job is to take the roster and the guys that he has in Triple-A and do the best possible job with that group," Kapler said on Wednesday morning.

"I trust that Matt Klentak and our front office—they are very consistent in going out and looking for pieces that will make our club better. Right now, my job is to take the 25 men that we have on this roster, try to put them in the best position to succeed, know our minor league system very well, know who may be able to come up and help us, and trust our player development staff at the minor league level who say player x, y, and z can help you. We have some exciting guys developing, they're still a ways away, but my job is not to look outside of our organization. It's to look internally and to try to put those guys in the best position to succeed."

The Phillies have lost five of their seven games to drop to 39-32 and 2.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. Kapler, however, isn't nervous.

Gabe Kapler says he's "not nervous at all," to be trailing the Braves by 2.5 games in the division. However, Kapler says he is "urgent" to win quickly. #On94WIP--️
