The Phillies starter has been struggling since joining the team and especially of late. This season, in 18 starts, Arrieta is 8-7 with a 4.67 ERA, 1.463 WHIP, and a 2.13 strikeout / walk ratio.
On Saturday, Arrieta allowed 11 hits and five earned runs over just 4.1 innings. He hasn't pitched more than 6.0 innings in a start since May 25th.
Arrieta, who signed a three-year deal worth $75 million with the Phillies last season, has a $20 million player option for 2020 and a club option in 2021.
Philadelphia was already reportedly set to be in the market for a pitcher as the July 31st trade deadline approaches. An injury to Arrieta would ramp up their interest/need for a pitcher even more so.
