Make no mistake, Josh McCown has played for 11 NFL teams since joining the league in 2002. If anyone knows the game, and knows the quarterback, position.

On Thursday, the 2019 Eagles backup QB joined Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show to discuss Philadelphia's decision to select QB Jalen Hurts in the second-round.

"As a fan, you have to ask your question were you surprised when they called, Philly, Philly?" McCown explained on the 94WIP Morning Show.

"Organizationally, it's an aggressive group that's gonna chase winning as best they can and you're gonna turn over every stone that you can to add talent to your team and make your franchise better. I believe watching how Carson played last year, especially down the stretch with guys that weren't necessarily on the roster to begin with, I think it was a huge growth and a step forward in his game. From a playing on-field standpoint, from a leadership standpoint bringing the guys along. I just think he's in a different place. He's a franchise quarterback, like you said, albeit I'm on this call. Make no mistake, you had an older quarterback play in a playoff game so I understand the idea. If you have an opportunity to get a young player that we feel like can develop into a franchise quarterback or a good player some day, that becomes an asset for you one way or another...you never know. This league is crazy. You add value to your team as best you can. With this young man, you may get snaps out of him not only as a quarterback, but in other areas where he can bring value to your team. I don't think it's a bad thing at all, to add a young man like Jalen Hurts.

"I'm not concerned about it. I think it will work. There's great people in the building, Doug will lead the way with that.

Cataldi asked the 40-year-old QB -- who admitted he still may return to the NFL but also plans to coach someday -- about the Eagles 27-year-old franchise QB in Carson Wentz.

"He's an Alpa, man," McCown said of Wentz. "He wants things a certain way. He has a vision for how he's gonna play the game and I appreciate that. But at the same time, I think what was cool about this year (2019), as the parts changed because of injury...he kind of had to adapt and mold. From a players standpoint, you all of the sudden develop this other skill set.

"All of the sudden injuries happen, bad things, but this other whole skill set comes out," McCown continued. "I think we saw that down the stretch for Carson as a quarterback. I admire that, he's growing, he's just sort of sorting through the first few years of his career, the ups and downs. There's a lot of crazy things that have happened.

"I think walking away for me this year, just really proud of him, admire him, and how he pursues his greatness. How he pursues wanting to be a special player and carry this franchise."
