Report: Jenkins' absence could be contract related

The Eagles' defensive leader and arguably their most respected player, Malcolm Jenkins, will not be present at the start of Offseason Team Activities on Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter. 
94WIP's Howard Eskin is told Jenkins' absense could be a contract issue. 

Jenkins, 31, has a 2019 base salary of $8.1 million and a 2020 base salary of $7.6 million. 

Entering the 2019 season, here is where Jenkins’ current contract ranks among safeties: 
9th in total dollars ($34 million) 
11th in average salary ($8.75 million)
10th in guarantees at signing ($16 million) 
11th in practical guarantees ($21 million) 

Jenkins has led the defense in snaps each of the last three seasons, totaling 3,003 snaps. He has played safety, nickel cornerback and linebacker. He has been their most important defensive player and, without question, the undisputed leader of their team.

With two years left on his contract, Jenkins is locked in for the Eagles at an extremely cheap rate. The way the contract is set up, he is basically protected from being a cap casualty in either 2019 or 2020. It is hard to blame Jenkins for wanting a new deal from the Eagles.
