Kris Bryant rumors: Phillies still involved

Don't give up on Kris Bryant to the Phillies just yet. 

Earlier this week, there was a report stating that the Phils were "unlikely to trade for Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant."
However, Rockies beat report Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports that the Cubs could be creating media noise with the Rockies in order to make a better deal with one of the NL East teams in the Braves, Nationals, or Phillies.

Last week, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that Bryant was back on the block and the Phillies were "showing at least exploratory interest."

Bryant, 28, has a base salary of $18.6 million in 2020. Bryant is set to become a free agent after the 2021 season, and it seems unlikely the Cubs will be signing him to the mega-extension he will be after. 

The three-time all-star third baseman and 2016 NL MVP has a career slash line of .284/.385/.516 and is averaging 32 homers and 92 RBI per season. In 2019, Bryant hit .282 with 31 homers.
