The July 31st MLB trade deadline is approaching quickly and the Phillies could certainly use a starting pitcher.
Stroman allowed seven hits and three earned runs in 6.0 innings of work. The Blue Jays ended up losing the game 4-2.
The 28-year-old right handed all-star pitcher is 5-10 this season with a 3.25 ERA, 3.72 FIP, and 2.59 SO/W in 19 starts. He is currently in the middle of a one-year deal worth $7.4 million.
After dropping two of three to the Nationals over the weekend, the Phils are 48-45 and 8.5 games back of Atlanta in NL East. They currently have a 0.5 game lead over the Brewers for the second NL wild card.
It certainly doesn't sound like the Phillies are ready to go all-in this season.
“We’re in the postseason if the season ended today, but we’re in a one-game playoff," Phillies president Andy MacPhail said on Friday. "For me you have to be more judicious with your playing talent if you think you have a longer haul to get through the postseason. I don’t believe we’re one player away from the World Series.”
Jake Arrieta is currently pitching through a bone spur for the Phillies, which is apparently a pain tolerance issue and does not require surgery immediately. Arrieta allowed four hits and one earned run in 5.0 innings on Sunday for the no decision, in an eventual 4-3 walk off win.
