Phillies manager rumors: 'Girardi clear favorite'

Joe Girardi is the "clear favorite" to become the next Phillies manager, according to Chicago reporter David Kaplan.

Former Yankees manager Joe Girardi is in Philadelphia today for a second meeting with Phillies management. He is the clear favorite for that job as the Phillies are all in to try to win in 2020.

Girardi is having a second interview today with the Phillies and according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, Girardi has a "decent chance" to become the new Phillies manager.

Hear Mets will not be rushed no matter where other searches stand. Philly seems further along, and Girardi has decent chance there — but word is an offer to anyone from another team won't speed up the Mets' process. Reportedly Beltran, Perez Bogar also still in Mets mix

Heyman adds that the Phillies' front office likes Buck Showalter, who worked with Andy MacPhail and Matt Klentak in Baltimore, but John Middleton prefers Girardi.

This is good news for Jon Marks & Ike Reese, as well as Joe Giglio, as all three 94WIP hosts are in favor of the Phillies hiring Girardi.

Girardi, 55, has a strong relationship with Phillies president Andy MacPhail, as both spent time with the Chicago Cubs. Giradi was the Yankees' manager from 2008-2017, helping New York to a World Series title in 2009, where they, of course, beat the Phils.
