Despite acquiring Bears RB Jordan Howard this offseason, Philadelphia could certainly use a young, talented running back to develop and feature for multiple seasons alongside Carson Wentz. The Godfather, Ray Didinger, likes Penn State running back Miles Sanders.
"I really like Miles Sanders, I really do," Didinger said on Friday's 94WIP Midday Show with Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie.
"And I think that that's a real possibility (for the Eagles in round two). I think one of the guys tonight should be a running back. You got (Darrell) Henderson, you got (David) Montgomery, you got some of these smaller backs, quicker backs. But I like Sanders. He's tough, he's physical, and he also can catch the ball well enough that he can give you that part of the game too. And I know the Eagles like him and I know they worked him out, so that's a possibility."
Sanders, a 21-year-old Pittsburgh native, spent three seasons at Penn State, but he was stuck behind Saquon Barkley for the first two. Last season, as a Junior, the 5'11", 210-pound Sanders rushed for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games. He also caught 24 balls for 139 yards. Sanders performed well at the NFL Combine, running a 4.49 (81st percentile) 40-yard dash and earning an 11.08 (83rd percentile) agility score.
"I'm just trying to read the tea leaves and I kind of get the feeling that they do," Didinger said when asked if the Eagles like Sanders more than Iowa State running back David Montgomery.
"It's hard not to really like Sanders. He only got to play the one year and boy he was really good. From the Eagles standpoint, it works to their advantage that he's almost a one year back because he doesn't have that kind of wear on him that some of these other backs do."
