Rodney McLeod is set to become an unrestricted free-agent. While his safety tandem partner in Malcolm Jenkins was a bit more apprehensive in saying he wants to be back in Philly for contractual reasons, McLeod expressed his desire for finishing his career as an Eagle.
"I would love to be back in Philly," McLeod told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie on Monday's 94WIP Midday Show. "Philly has a special place in my heart...Philly has embraced me and I fit right in. Hopefully I can finish my career out here. I love Philly, for sure."
DeCamara added that he hopes McLeod gets paid more after a great season and McLeod says, "I hope so as well."
McLeod returned from injury this season and played all 16 games, tallying two interceptions, two forced fumbles, one sack, and 74 combined tackles. The 29-year-old safety signed a five-year, $35 million contract with Philadelphia in March of 2016.
McLeod was also asked about Jadeveon Clowney's, now infamous, hit on Carson Wentz.
"I definitely think it was a late hit," McLeod said. "It's hard to say as a defender myself...I think in that situation he knew what he was doing. I don't know if he had any ill intention behind, but I felt like he wanted to see a message.
"I felt like (Clowney) wanted his presence to be felt. I think the refs gotta do a better job of stepping in, in that situation. You gotta give him the penalty and calm players down. The QB is a valuable position and ultimately that did affect the game a little bit for us."
