Made up Sixers trade: Richardson for Dinwiddie

The NBA trade deadline is just two days away and with the Sixers struggling mightily of late, all eyes are on general manager Elton Brand to make a move.

The thing is, the Sixers don't really have many movable contracts, players to trade, or draft picks to give up. So it gets tricky.

But here is one trade that makes perfect sense to me, really for both teams, that was brought up by Sixers Adam on the Rights To Ricky Sanchez Podcast

Philadelphia sends Josh Richardson to the Nets for Spencer Dinwiddie.

BOOM.

Here's why it works for Brooklyn:

Long-term, with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets don't need ball dominant scoring guards like Dinwiddie. They'd like guards capable of scoring, sure, but more so they're in need of perimeter defendense. Enter Richardson. Also, while Dinwiddie is certainly the better scorer, he's only shooting 31.6-percent from three. Richardson is shooting 33.3-percent from three and is a career 36.3-percent three-point shooter, so Richardson would seemingly be a better fit alongside the ball dominant Irving.

Richardson and Dinwiddie are both 26 years old and their salaries match almost perfectly.

Here's why it works for Philly:

The Sixers are in desperate need of iso scoring guards and that's what Dinwiddie is. While they would lose out on Richardson's defense, they can absorb a lesser defensive player because of the defensive talent already on the roster with Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle, Joel Embiid, and Al Horford.

Dinwiddie is just 26, he's averaging 21.3 points per game, and can run the offense late in games—or early for that matter—if needed, better than J-Rich, frankly.

Dinwiddie makes $10.6 million this year, $11.5 million in 2020-21, and has a $12.3 million player option in 2021-22.

So...who says no?
