ESPN's Stephen A. Smith joined Sonny Hill on Sunday morning on 94WIP for a full hour.

Smith, 51, worked as a 76ers columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 1994-2010 and developed a relationship with Hill, a Philadelphia basketball legend.

The two chatted about their careers and life in general for a full hour.

"I was at the Philadelphia Inquirer for 17 years," Smith said. "Of course, I always had you where I could pick up the phone and always have counseling. Where somebody like you is so pivotal, you always kept my eyes on the prize and it was always, always, always big picture with you. You simply will not allow somebody to blow opportunities and to throw their life away just for an immediate emotion. You're always cognizant of that.

"Nobody has gotten anywhere in life without help. Everybody needs somebody. There's always somebody who came before you that provided some kind of motivation, advice, counsel, etcetera to help get you to where you are. And along your journey, if you forget those people, if you act like they didn't do anything for you, you got a problem. That's an internal problem."
