76ers sign Joel Embiid to supermax contract extension

The Philadelphia 76ers and All-Star center Joel Embiid have agreed to a four-year supermax contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon. The four-year deal is worth $196 million, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Shelburne reports that extension is fully guaranteed.

Embiid, 27, is coming off a career-year where he averaged a career-high 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, finishing up as the MVP runner up to Nikola Jokic.

The four-time All-Star, three-time second-team All-NBA-er, and three-time NBA All-Defensive second teamer signed a five-year, $148 million designated rookie scale maximum contract with the Sixers in October of 2017.

Now, the Sixers must turn their attention to their other young All-Star in Ben Simmons, who has been involved in trade rumors throughout the offseason following a postseason where he could not contribute offensively late in games.
