76ers star center Joel Embiid was diagnosed with an injured lateral meniscus in his left knee, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski also noted that Embiid 'will be out through the weekend while a treatment plan is finalized' and that 'there's still uncertainty about how the Sixers medical staff, several specialists and Embiid will move forward to the treat the injured meniscus. They'll take more time over the next several days to chart a course.'
The injury occurred during Tuesday night's 119-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Embiid had missed the previous two games in Denver and Portland respectively, and didn't look like himself during any of the 30 minutes he played at Golden State.
The 76ers star center currently leads the NBA with 35.3 points per game. He was well on his way toward becoming the back-to-back league MVP, though this absence now almost ensures he will not reach the required 65-game threshold to be eligible for the award.
This Embiid's third significant meniscus injury. He previously missed the final 37 games of the 2016-2017 season with a torn meniscus in his left knee, and played through a meniscus tear in his right knee during the 2021 playoffs.
