It's not a Philadelphia sports press conference until Howard Eskin shows up.
And, of course, "The King" stole the show at today's introductory press conference for new Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey.
Eskin's question came at the 25:55 mark.
Eskin: "Daryl, I know being your new you have to say all of the right things about all of the players on the roster. I understand that. But when you mention Joel, who hasn't been in shape for the years he's been here. Ben Simmons, who won't take a 15-foot jump shot. And then you talk about Tobias Harris and Al Horford. Do you really believe you could put a championship team together with those players still here and not making any trades with any of those players?
Morey: "Do I have to say nice things about you?"
Eskin: "No, because nobody else does Daryl, so you don't have to either."
Morey: "Alright, I'm just checking where my nice words end today. Look, I hope you at least give me at least a few minutes to be here. I'm still learning. The reality is, you know, you've been in the league, so has Doc, so has Elton. Our championship team probably isn't going to have the same exact players that we have right now. Do I think the players that we have right now are very good and we can build around and continue to grow from there? I do believe, absolutely."
Eskin: "So Daryl, you're not opposed—if you think you can make this team better—trading any one of those players?"
Morey: "My goal is to win a championship, so whatever gets us there is what we'll do. But I would say to have two star-plus players in 24 and 26 years old, that is why I couldn't get Doc Rivers to interview in Houston because he saw this roster and said it was amazing."
Eskin: "Politically correct, good job."
Welcome to Philly, Daryl.
